MAPUTO PORT SET TO COMPLETE BERTH REHAB PROJECT LATER THIS YEAR – UPDATE

Terry Hutson has reported in Africa Ports & Ships Newsletter that the Mozambican port of Maputo has just taken delivery of another two new Liebherr mobile LHM 550 harbour cranes aimed at improving productivity and in response to increasing demand. 

The port has also acquired 14 payloaders, 8 tractors, 8 forklifts and 2 rail excavators for wagon unloading operations, in line with the need to improve the berth usage and the rehabilitation and deepening works that are currently in progress. 

The port expects to increase its handling capacity with the completion of the rehabilitation works of berths 6, 7, 8 and 9, which will creates berths with a depth of up to 15 metres and improve the occupancy rate of the berths by creating a larger mooring area.  The completion of the works is scheduled for the last quarter of this year.
