In November 2023, a major fire broke out at the NTC Woodchip Mill, destroying 200,000 tonnes of woodchips and round logs. The infrastructure, too, was severely damaged and is still under repair. The fire raged for 10 days.

This week, another woodchip fire broke out on the woodchip route at the multipurpose terminal. Fortunately, it was swiftly extinguished, though some 80 metres of the conveyor line were damaged.

It is anticipated that the system will be repaired within a week. Unlike the 2023 blaze, the interruption to commercial activities is expected to be minimal.
